If it has not already been done, your first task will be removing the seed from it's "Husk", this is a hard leather like casing. I've found the best way to deal with this is to lightly score
the circumference with a hand saw, then crack the outer shell either using a vise or pliers, and remove the seed. Keep in mind not to apply too much force, or cut through the husk into the
seed.
Germination

"Easter Grass" Method of germination.
Once you have liberated the seeds they will benefit from a 24 hour soak in water, if you have fresh seed they will all sink within this period. Older seed may require a longer soak period. Be
sure to change the water daily.
The next step is germination, Hyphaene seeds require high temperature and humidity to initiate. I have found 35C to be an ideal germination temperature for H.coriacea. This also is a
conducive environment for mold and other pathogens to flourish, one answer I've found is to use "Easter Grass" on top of the seeds. This seems to hold enough moisture at the seed surface, and
still allow some air movement.
My germination box is nothing more than a reusable food container with a bottom layer of sphagnum moss, ( coir may be a better choice). A temperature controlled propagator is ideal, but
lacking that, a warm spot in the greenhouse, a sunny spot, or even on top of a fluorescent light fixture or computer monitor might suffice.

Germinated H. coriacea, top is seed still enclosed in "Husk".
First germination occured after three weeks, now it is now time to set them in their new homes.

Deep containers for these are a necessity,
The above is why,
These are remote germinators. The cotylendon may extend down 12"+ before the seedling stem develops. If you are in a favorable climate, planting these directly in the ground can be
preferable. Emergence of first leaves may take a month or longer after being planted.

This picture shows the developing first spear, This is with a seed that was "Lifted" from the seed bed. ( normally, this would occur under the soil surface )
The seed by this point is probably exhausted and can soon be separated.

Rather small at this point, but hopefully the start of a long relationship!
